Our Story...

On November 17, 1901, Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church was officially organized as a church. Prior to that, in October of 1895 two men began a mission Sunday School as a response to a month of revival meetings led by Dr. Thomas Pritchard and Dr. LR Pruette. This Sunday School met and grew for six years until they recognized that God was growing them into a distinct church. As the church grew, they recognized their need for facilities to meet in, and the first facility completed was a Sunday School building, finished in September of 1902. The first auditorium was then completed in May of 1907.

The foundations of Pritchard demonstrated the belief that church is a people of God, not a building or a worship service or a denomination. The church grew from the seed of the faithfulness not only of Dr. Pritchard and Dr. Pruette, but the thousands of women and men who have since served, fellowshipped, and worshiped together under the name “Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church.”
Today Pritchard is both the same and a very different church than it was at the beginning. As with any organism, the church has adapted to its surroundings and external pressures. The values and identity of Pritchard have remained: Jesus centered, scripture informed, family of faith. Today our people are spread all across the Charlotte metro area. Today we have very different worship than we did at those first services. Today we refer to ourselves as “Pritchard Church” not to deny our past, but in order to be accessible to those who have not yet joined us. We hope that your story will join our story, and together we will continue to know Jesus and follow him.
